The climbing skill is used to go those places you wouldn't normally be able to go, such as up the sides of cliffs and over town walls. Climbing is used automatically when you attempt to go in a direction.
Note that climbing is hard work, and may take a lot of movement (especially if you are not well versed in the skill.) Additionally, you may slip and fall, taking damage - so be careful!
