Totems are magical held items. Carving and creating a totem allows you to bind some of the qualities of a type of animal to the totem. For large and powerful creatures, the bound properties may be attack power or hitpoints, while for smaller creatures the bound properties may be dexterity, speed, or movement.

Carving a totem happens in multiple stages:

  1. Gather a piece of wood from outdoors. This will serve as the base for your totem.
  1. Create the totem, specifying the type of animal. You can create one for a specific person if desired.
  1. Carve the totem, one stage at a time. Totems can take a long time to carve, and high level totems may take many carving sessions.
  1. Finish the totem, sealing the magic in it and making it usable.

When a totem is ready to be sealed, you will see this message:

You turn an unfinished druidic totem of a lion over and decide that it's time to finish and seal the totem.

When you finish sealing the totem, you will see this message:

You complete a druidic totem of a lion with a few deft knife strokes and cast a subtle spell to seal it and anchor its magic.
