The 'tanner' skill allows the further processing of hides and skins.

You can preserve hides to prevent them from rotting. This costs a small amount of gold to cover the preservatives used.

You also can scrape hides to remove their stats. This allows you to produce leathercrafted items with no stats, which allows them to be more heavily customized with upgrades or enchantments. There is a chance to destroy a hide while scraping it, so exercise caution.

You can further prepare a skin by specially brushing and scraping it to make it into suede. Suede is more supple than normal leather but just as tough. Armor made from sueded hides tends to be higher quality than untreated leather. It costs a profession point to suede a hide, and like scraping, there is a chance of destroying it.

Larger hides are more difficult to preserve, scrape and suede.
