Principles
Stats
Unlike Thief a Warrior's abilities do not bypass armor. As such, we will want lots of Hitroll which you can think of as armor penetration. The more Hitroll we have the less our opponent's armor matters. We also want Damroll which gives us bonus damage. You can almost entirely ignore the AC or Armor Class of an item while on the islands. Warrior's abilities use movement as their resource and lots of it so you will also want to look out for MOV_REGEN which allows us to regenerate movement more quickly in and outside of combat.
In short, equipment stats should be prioritized in this order:
- STR (just enough to wield your weapon, maybe 1 or 2 extra if to prevent being disarmed by Chill Touch)
- HITROLL
- DAMROLL
- MOV_REGEN
- DEX
- CON
- STR for more damage
The primary stats (STR/INT/WIS/DEX/CON/CHR) can only be boosted by equipment by 8 so it's useless to have a primary stat like STR on every piece of equipment as it will be wasted.
This seems like a lot of stats to manage but this actually makes it easy to spot Warrior equipment as it will have at least two or more of these stats (sometimes all of them at once!)
Any other stats are just a bonus. You can almost entirely ignore the AC (Armor) stat on equipment while leveling, you are not a tank; you want stuff to die fast. However, if you have two HEAD or ON_BODY items which have the same stats you should take the one with higher armor as armor counts for more in these slots.
Guidelines
- A good rule of thumb if you're unsure is to have roughly 1:1 Hitroll:Damroll.
- If Cleric is your second or third class you can make that more like 1:2 or even 1:3 Hitroll to Damroll as Bless and Faerie Fire can make up for the hitroll on your armor.
- By level 20 Warrior you should aim to have 15 Hitroll and Damroll, at least 20 Move Regen (preferably 30+)
- You should have at least one crush weapon and one slash weapon. One of those, or in addition to them, you should have a nonorm special damage type weapon to deal with ethereals/ghosts. These weapon types are widely available (such as The Goblin Slayer below)
List of Warrior Equipment
The Warrior Equipment Category lists equipment which is either explicitly WARRIOR flagged or is designed to be used for Warriors
Leveling Gear
This section will cover important pieces of gear you should do your best to acquire while leveling. Not every piece of equipment is required nor will everyone have the exactly the same equipment due to Alter Aeon being a multi-class MUD. As with most newbie island gear it is focused primarily towards dealing as much damage as possible even if there is slightly less armor due to the theory that they can't hit you if they're dead.
NOTE: Gear listed here is generally focused on hitting rather than tanking to make the leveling process smoother
The item page for each embedded item should have the location of where it can be found.
