A skilled alchemist can increase the potency of most spell components by reducing it to a more concentrated form. Reducing a spell component transforms it into a refined powder that, while weighing a quarter of the base material, is higher in level. The color of the reduction can vary wildly, depending on what impurities were present in the original sample.

Very high level spell components are generally too potent to be concentrated further. Likewise, spell components that do not save or time out are too volatile to be concentrated.

Only small amounts of spell components can be processed at a time. You need at least 4 pounds to make a reduction.

Reduced spell components do not save, so it is best to prepare them just before you begin brewing.

If you know brew tonic, you can reduce herbs as well as spell components. However, the process will transform the herb into a spell component.
