'Magic missile' is a spell that allows the caster to create a small ball of force fields, then throw it to hit a target. The caster has a limited ability to guide the spell after it's thrown, making the spell very difficult to dodge or evade. The down side is that the spell doesn't do a lot of damage.
Rarely, you may find certain magical creatures that are capable of absorbing the energy of the spell to heal themselves.
