Wat? These items are nearly identical. Is the 1 ac/1 mana really worth 11 levels?
Item: 'sash strip silk sequined' Weight: 1 Size: 2'6" Total levels: 15 (and 8 cleric) (you can't use this yet) Type: MAGIC Composition: FABRIC Defense: 1 ac-apply Object is: CLERIC Wear locations are: WAIST Item has other effects: Affects: MANA_REGEN by 1.5 Affects: MANA by 10 You are wearing a red sash. Item: 'red sash' Weight: 1 Size: 3'0" Level: 4 Type: MAGIC Composition: FABRIC Object is: MAGE Wear locations are: WAIST Item has other effects: Affects: MANA_REGEN by 1.5 Affects: MANA by 9 -- Again, these items are nearly identical. Is that ANTI_GOOD and 1 less AC really worth _60_ levels? Or is the level 27 version just old? If the level of an item, its rarity flag, and the improvement label can't be used to determine the relative power of the item what is their purpose? Item: 'charcoal black mask leather' Weight: 1 Size: 0'10" Total levels: 30 (and 13 thief) Type: ARMOR Composition: HIDE Defense: 0 ac-apply Object is: RARE ANTI_GOOD THIEF Wear locations are: HEAD Item has other effects: Affects: THIEF_SKILL_LEVEL by 1 Affects: DAMROLL by 2 Affects: CAST_ABILITY by -1 A black leather mask has not much room for improvement. Item: 'black assassin's mask assassin leather ' Weight: 1 Size: 0'10" Level: 27 (you can't use this yet) Type: ARMOR Composition: HIDE Defense: 1 ac-apply Object is: RARE THIEF Wear locations are: HEAD Item has other effects: Affects: THIEF_SKILL_LEVEL by 1 Affects: DAMROLL by 2 The mask of an assassin has not much room for improvement. For weapons I've heard the argument that well, the weapon and str requirement really determine its power, that's why some weapons are better at earlier levels. Here we have a level _30_ stabber. It's obviously a stabber, it only DR, thiefslev, and dex. It requires _30_ strength, that's massive for a thief weapon. Next we have a level _17_ item, so over a 70 level difference. The lvl 30 version has 2 extra dex and 5 DR, is that worth 70 levels? Arguably the speed is having an impact too but it's a stabbing weapon, speed doesn't matter. Item: 'large hunting spear' Weight: 34 Size: 6'2" Level: 30 (you can't use this yet) Type: WEAPON Composition: IRON Weapon damage: 6 to 48 stab, 30 strength to use. Object is: ANTI_EVIL THIEF Item has other effects: Affects: DAMROLL by 10 Affects: THIEF_SKILL_LEVEL by 1 Affects: DEX by 3 Damage Type: POINTED Damage Traits: BLADED Strong against: MECHANICAL Weak against: PLANTS SKELETAL Special Qualities: (none) A large hunting spear could possibly have its damage and speed improved slightly. A large hunting spear can't really have its non-combat attributes improved. Item: 'dark steel spear ' Weight: 9 Size: 5'10" Level: 17 (you can't use this yet) Type: WEAPON Composition: IRON Weapon damage: 5 to 50 very slow stab, 18 strength to use. Object is: ANTI_GOOD THIEF Item has other effects: Affects: DAMROLL by 5 Affects: DEX by 1 Affects: THIEF_SKILL_LEVEL by 1 Affects: MOVE by 10 Damage Type: POINTED Damage Traits: BLADED Strong against: MECHANICAL Weak against: PLANTS SKELETAL Special Qualities: (none) A dark steel spear is about as balanced and damaging as one can expect it to be. A dark steel spear can't really have its non-combat attributes improved.
