A riposte is a quick counterattack immediately after parrying a blow with your weapon. Because your enemy will be off balance from the attack, a riposte has a much greater chance of hitting.
When you shift into riposte stance, you'll stay there for several seconds waiting for an attack before shifting out automatically.
